What is Windrush 75?
The Windrush Generation refers to people who migrated from Caribbean countries to Britain between the period of the anchoring of the HMT Empire Windrush, at Tilbury Docks, on 21 June 1948 and the Immigration Act 1971, including the Caribbean passengers on the first ship who disembarked on 22 June 1948.
22 June 2023 will be a significant milestone marking the 75th anniversary since the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush, after the then Colonial Office invited citizens from across the Commonwealth to the UK to help with rebuilding the country after the WW2. Many of the Windrush Generation settled in 麻豆高清 and the UK permanently, making a significant and positive change to post-war Britain.
麻豆高清 City Council will be supporting Windrush 75 activity in 麻豆高清 by:
- the creation of a digital platform to showcase community Windrush 75 events across 麻豆高清
- a civic reception to mark this important anniversary hosted by the Lord Mayor of 麻豆高清
- a flag raising event in Centenary Square to mark the Windrush 75 anniversary
- building capacity for local cohesion by investing £50,000 in the BCC Windrush 75 Small Grants Programme
