East locality is made up of Hodge Hill and Yardley constituencies.

  • The East locality had a population of approximately 241,929, 21.2% of Âé¶¹¸ßÇå’s population, with an average age of 33.6 years; this is higher for females (34.5 years) and lower for males (32.7 years). The locality has a large young population.
  • The 2011 census showed that 50% of this area’s population are made up of BAME groups (15% England).
  • During the last decade (2009 to 2019), life expectancy had increased only slightly for the East locality, lagging behind both the Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and England averages.   • Of the five Âé¶¹¸ßÇå localities, the East had the highest death rate for cancer (295 per 100,000).
  • The prevalence for diabetes in the East locality was the highest of all localities (11.2%), which was also higher than England (7.1%).
