Job evaluation and the reshaped pay and grading structure

How it is linked to job evaluation

Reshaping our pay and grading structure and the job evaluation project are both part of the .

The reshaped structure has been developed using the existing grade boundaries therefore, the job evaluations that are taking place have not affected the development of our reshaped structure.

We planned for both projects to be completed at the same time however, job evaluations are taking longer than expected to complete and it is important that we take the time to get it right.

As the reshaped structure benefits everyone, we did not want to wait to implement it. If you are in current Grades 1 to 5, you will move to the reshaped structure when it is implemented, so you can benefit sooner.

All roles within the organisation have previously been evaluated under the NJC scheme and allocated a grade from Grade 1 to 7.

To simplify moving to the reshaped structure, you will move based on your current grade and pay.

Where we are with job evaluation

To make sure all colleagues are rewarded fairly, job evaluations were carried out throughout 2024, and will continue through 2025 and in to 2026.

A joint working group of council officers and trade union representatives has overseen the information gathering stage of this process, to produce up-to-date job descriptions. These have been reviewed by line managers and signed off by job holders.

Further context and information has been provided through a job description questionnaire (JDQ) to make sure all the responsibilities of a role are accurately reflected.

Results of job evaluation

We have agreed with the trade unions to release outcomes once a large number of employees’ roles have been evaluated.

We will update you when we are close to this point.

We will release outcomes for remaining roles when they have all been evaluated.
